HUDSON - It started as a game of wizards, with three 10-year-old boys casting make-believe spells on a chicken in a coop.
The game turned serious quickly when the boys tried to light the end of a stick to create a magic wand.
Their effort, which involved gasoline and a Raid insecticide spray can, went awry, and one boy was burned on his legs, stomach and chest, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Sabastian Padgett was taken to Medical Center at Bayonet Point about 4:30 p.m. Saturday from his home at 14625 Sheila Drive.
He later was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition Monday.
A sheriff's report states that Sabastian, his brother, Seth, and a friend were playing wizards when Sabastian tried to light the stick.
The friend accidentally knocked over a small bucket of gasoline, which spilled on the ground near Sabastian's feet.
Seth told deputies Sabastian struck a match and a spark flew, igniting the gasoline and Sabastian's legs.
Monica Padgett, Sabastian's mother, heard him scream and ran to the chicken coop, where Sabastian had extinguished the fire by dropping on the ground and rolling, the sheriff's report states.
