TAMPA - The County Center has been closed because of a power outage.
Willie Puz, spokesman for Hillsborough County, said all 1,500 employees were sent home at noon today and that the problem is being investigated.
Rick Morera, spokesman for Tampa Electric Co., said it appears there is internal problem with the building.
"Tampa Electric equipment seems to be working fine," he said.
Employees were told this morning that a generator blew and it could be six to 12 hours before the electricity is turned back on, said Warren Weathers, chief deputy property appraiser.
"Some departments have been sent home; others are still trying to work, but it's getting hot in here," Weathers said this morning.
The goal, Puz said, is to get the electricity back on and open the building for business as usual Friday.
