Longtime Tampa contractor American Electrical Services has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The company cited debt of $1 million to $10 million and assets of zero to $50,000.
Company officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
AES began in 1967 when Roger Phillips Sr. and his wife, Lynda, started running an electrical services company from their home in Forest Hills, according to the company's Web site. It expanded into commercial, residential and emergency electrical services.
By June 1998, the company had moved to a 50,000-square-foot facility at 13720 N. Nebraska Ave., just north of Fletcher Avenue, with more than 100 trucks and 175 employees.
AES cites some of the largest homebuilders as clients, including KB Home, Lyons Heritage, Morrison Homes, Ryland Homes and US Homes.
Sons Roger and Dahl are co-owners, according to the company's filing with federal bankruptcy court.
AES lists 100 to 199 creditors, including Auto Zone, First Commercial Bank of Tampa and SunTrust.
