Insurance license pulled after theft

Published: September 25, 2009

NEW PORT RICHEY - An insurance agent has been sentenced to 10 years of probation for bilking an 81-year-old woman out of an $88,000 insurance premium.

Randolph Kahl-Winter, 48, who pleaded guilty Wednesday to grand theft and uttering a forged instrument, also must surrender his insurance license.

In November, Kahl-Winter obtained a $1.75 million life insurance policy from the American National Insurance Co. for Bonnie Madden of Port Richey.

What he didn't tell Madden was that he inflated her net worth and forged her signature on the application. Kahl-Winter overstated Madden's net worth so he would receive a larger commission from the insurance company.

As part of his sentence, Kahl-Winter must repay the $52,335 commission.

The insurance company has already refunded Madden's $88,000.
