MELBOURNE - Melbourne police say a 37-year-old woman tried to sell her 6-year-old boy for gas money.
Marcy Pappalardo is being held in Brevard County jail on $2,000 bond. She faces charges of child neglect, retail theft and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. It is unclear if she already has an attorney.
According to Melbourne police, a tow truck driver called authorities Friday afternoon and reported the incident. The driver said Pappalardo tried to sell the child at a gas station. The driver then followed the woman, who was eventually stopped and questioned by investigators.
A woman who was in the car with Pappalardo disputed the tow truck driver's report and said he made up the story.
