GULFPORT - Leto had no answer for the Boca Ciega passing attack or its smothering defense, and as a result the Falcons lost the district game.
The Falcons (1-2) only mustered 150 yards and seven first downs on offense. Their lone score came on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Dominic Marino to Jeremy Deering in the second quarter.
The Pirates' Shaquille Bradford had an outstanding passing night, going for 8-for-13 for 218 yards and four touchdowns. Bradford's four touchdown passes were all longer than 25 yards.
Boca Ciega got its first victory of the season and is 1-2.
Boca Ciega's defense came up huge in the second half and scored three times. Rommon Lumpkin accounted for two of the defensive scores on a fumble recovery and an interception.
"We have to regroup before King next week. We had nothing to hang our hat on defensively in the first half," Leto coach Hugh Dehnert said.
"We have to protect our passer better."
