ST. PETERSBURG - Cambridge Christian showed depth as backup quarterback Michael McDermott scored two touchdowns in a victory against district rival Keswick Christian.
McDermott was in for starter Hayden Kelley, who broke his wrist in last week's loss to Bradenton Christian. McDermott ran in from 3 yards out with 9:28 left in the first quarter, and he scored on an 8-yard run early in the second quarter.
Keswick's only touchdown came in the second quarter on a 15-yard run by running back DeJuan Wright with 8:19 left in the half.
The win was Cambridge's first of the season, while the Crusaders still are looking for their first win of the season.
McDermott was shaken up on a play late in the second quarter, and Lancers coach Bob Dare put running back Chris Brown in to replace him. On his first play, Brown ran 40 yards for an apparent Lancers touchdown, but it was brought back because of a personal foul penalty.
Brown played for most of the second half, with sporadic relief from McDermott and running back Daniel Hamilton.
