SPRING HILL - Despite having an extra week off to prepare, Bishop McLaughlin (0-4) was unable to stop the multi-faceted attack by Indian Rocks Christian (3-1).
Senior QB Blake Farver handed off to nine different running backs, resulting in 273 rushing yards for the Golden Eagles. Junior fullback Kyle Cleary led the way with nine rushes for 110 yards. Farver also connected on eight of 12 passes for 133 yards to five different receivers.
Golden Eagles coach Mark Buchanan said he ignited his team at halftime by promising a long, hard practice on Monday unless they increased their intensity.
Scoring a touchdown on each second half possession, Buchanan seemed satisfied.
"It appears they got the message," he said.
Hurricanes coach Marty Williams stuck with his option offense, with junior QB Mitch Ritter either keeping the ball or pitching it to running back Giovanni Perone. But, the Golden Eagles 3-4 defense blitzing on nearly every play was too much for the Hurricane's offense to handle. The Hurricanes finished with 95 yards of offense.
After the game, Williams complimented the Golden Eagles players in a huddle.
"You are where we want to be," he said.
