TAMPA - Senior running back Robby Garcia led the way early with seven carries for 76 yards rushing on the first drive alone, finishing the game with 19 carries for 123 yards rushing and two touchdowns as Jesuit rolled past Steinbrenner, which was playing its first varsity game. Garcia's longest run was for 23 yards, and he added a 40-yard catch.
Senior quarterback Bobby Eveld was 7-for-10 for 108 yards passing and one touchdown. Tyler Godec made an amazing 29-yard touchdown catch on third-and-18 as Jesuit went up 21-0.
Junior running back Miles Bennett had nine carries for 62 yards rushing, with his longest run of 31, and one touchdown.
The Jesuit (3-1, 1-0 Class 2A-District 5) defense was strong all night with seven tackles for loss, including sacks by Trace Williams and Michael Lamoureux. Brian Peterson had two interceptions, the first of which he brought back to the 3 and the second he took back to the 1.
Calvin Ruff recovered a fumble which led to a 20-yard field goal by Tyler Feely.
For Steinbrenner, junior quarterback Christian Carriere was 5-for-12 for 69 yards passing, while junior tight end Tobi Antigha caught three passes for 42 yards.
