ST. PETE. CATH....35 LENNARD...18
ST. PETERSBURG - Lennard didn't have much of a problem moving the ball against St. Petersburg Catholic. The Longhorns' problem was protecting the ball.
Lennard committed five turnovers, including three fumbles, in losing a sloppy Class 2A-District 5 game to St. Petersburg Catholic on Friday.
At one point late in the first quarter and early in the second, the two teams traded turnovers in five consecutive possessions.
"I've got nothing to say," said a disappointed Lennard coach George Edington.
Despite the turnovers, Lennard was still in the game, until its third fumble. Barons defensive end Evan Holmes scooped up the loose ball and ran away from the chasing Longhorns for a 57-yard fumble return and a 28-6 Barons lead with 47 seconds left in the third quarter.
"It was an adrenaline rush," Holmes said.
Lennard, which didn't complete a pass until 6:05 left in the game, got hot with the pass but it was too late. DeMyco Winston caught a 21-yard TD from quarterback Fred Porter, and Juan Silva hauled in a 60-yard catch for a score.
