TAMPA - After last week's 9-6 loss to state power Armwood, Tampa Bay Tech coach C.C. Culpepper said his team and the entire student body acted like somebody in the family died.
"That's the way it was, like somebody died," Culpepper said after his Titans dismantled Chamberlain on Friday. "We went up against the biggest and baddest and went toe to toe with them last week. The way these guys responded was awesome."
The Titans dominated Chamberlain from the start and the game was never close. Tampa Bay Tech dominated both sides of the line, led by Maurice Hagens, who ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns, but it was special teams and the defense that counted for the Titans (2-1).
Hagens ran the ball in from the 3 after the first of three turnovers by Chamberlain (0-4) to put the Titans ahead. On Chamberlain's next possession, Eric Crowell picked off a pass in the flat and went 17 yards untouched to make it 12-0.
Most of Hagens' yards were picked up in the first half. By the time the Titans led 26-0 early in the second quarter after Hagens' third touchdown run, Culpepper started emptying the bench.
