ORMOND BY-THE-SEA - Beach patrol officials in Volusia County say the body of a 16-year-old swimmer has washed ashore.
Brandon Martin went missing when he was swimming Saturday morning. In the hours after his disappearance, Volusia County beach patrol officials weren't able to find his body.
But according to Central Florida News 13, a body matching the teen's description eventually washed ashore. Officials on Sunday confirmed the body was Martin's.
Beach patrol spokesman Capt. Scott Petersohn told The Daytona Beach News-Journal that another swimmer also became trapped in dangerous rip currents this weekend, but a lifeguard was able to reach him in time. Petersohn called the rip currents "intense."
