Paws in the Park, a fundraiser to benefit the nonprofit group Spay Pasco, was held Saturday at San Antonio City Park, 12202 Main St.
Activities included an agility course for dogs, a pet costume contest, "tail painting," lure coursing, a dancing dog demonstration, face painting for children, vendors, music, entertainment and refreshments. Several animal rescue groups showcased adoptable pets, and a "blessing of the pets" was bestowed.
Diana Mattox, a veterinarian with San Antonio Animal Hospital, founded Spay Pasco.
"I started Spay Pasco in 2007 because of the pet overpopulation problem in our community," Mattox said in a news release. "Last year in Pasco County close to 9,000 dogs and cats were euthanized due to overpopulation."
