TAMPA - University of South Florida football player Sam Barrington, a probable starter at middle linebacker, was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid license.

Barrington, a sophomore from Jacksonville, was arrested near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Interstate 275 in Tampa. He was released after paying $250 bail shortly after 9 p.m. and is due in court next month to face charges of multiple driving infractions.

Barrington, 19, was arrested on the same charge a year ago. In May 2009, he turned himself in a month after he was pulled over. A university spokesman said he had a suspended license after failing to set up a court date related to unpaid parking tickets.

Barrington's latest arrest comes five days after former USF cornerback Jerome Murphy, a third-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in April's NFL draft, was pulled over in Tampa and charged with driving without a valid license Saturday afternoon.
