Party to celebrate Dali Museum construction milestone

»  Comments | Post a Comment

How do you celebrate a half-constructed building?

By having a party with half-dressed models, of course.

If this all seems surreal, it is. On Saturday, the Dali Museum is hosting Gala's Half-Dressed CarnivĂ le marking the halfway point in the construction of the new museum.

The 66,500-square-foot building, which will showcase the largest collection of Dali artwork outside of the artist's native Spain, is schedule to be complete by January 2011.

Featuring models wearing (or almost not wearing) Dali art-inspired dresses and costumed servers, the party will mimic the lavish style Gala, Salvador Dali's flamboyant wife.

You are encouraged to wear masks, costumes or attire "to inspire."

The event is 9 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the new DalĂ Museum site at Bayshore Drive SE and Fifth Avenue SE in St. Petersburg. It costs $15 in advance, $20 at the door and $250 for VIP. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
