Armchair art lovers have yet online tool to play with in MuralLocator.org, though it's even more fun as a way of connecting with cool murals in person.
The site lets users find, see and learn about murals across the globe, though most of the entries are from major cities in the United States - with a heavy concentration in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco.
So far, the site lists only two murals in the Bay area: the colorful depiction of Ybor City's Latin heritage on the side of La Union Marti-Maceo on Seventh Avenue and a mural by Skip Dyrda on the side of the Crisp Building in downtown Sarasota. Florida has three other murals listed - two in Miami and one in Stuart.
The listings, which are supplied by users, contain photographs of the murals, their locations, information about the artists and brief descriptions.
Users can find murals either by hunting on a Google map, through a keyword search or by browsing a collage of the latest murals on the site's front page. And mural lovers can keep up with recent additions through MuralLocator's Facebook page, Twitter and RSS feeds.
"Our goal is to find locations of amazing public art wall murals to share them with you to help archive the history and importance of murals," a statement on MuralLocator's website says. "We want to connect with artists and art foundations to expand the knowledge of art."
