MR. WOODCOCK

The title represents at least half of the cumulative wit in this comedy about a successful writer (an unlikely Seann William Scott) who is horrified to discover that his widowed mom (Susan Sarandon) is dating the sadistic gym teacher from his old high school. The rest of the laughs, such as they are, come from Billy Bob Thornton's performance as the phys ed drill sergeant from hell.

PG-13; 87 minutes

GOOD LUCK CHUCK

Even for those who are sufficiently forgiving in the talent department to like Jessica Alba just for being hot, and consider Dane Cook a laugh riot, this mean-spirited, somewhat raunchy romantic comedy is still likely to disappoint. The "story" is that he's unlucky in love and she's clumsy, so of course they're meant for each other, after he plows through enough other women.

R; 96 minutes

AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Most people think of this as the archetypal version of the famous movie love story, though of course it too was a remake. Starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr as lovers who meet on a ship but encounter stormy seas on the path to happily ever after, this lavish weepie is being re-released with a bundle of features, including profiles of the stars and footage from the original premiere.

Not rated; 115 minutes

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY: COLLECTOR'S EDITION

Journey back to the days when rom-com darling Meg Ryan could still crinkle her nose with the New York-set romantic comedy that ponders the question of whether a man and a woman can be friends. Special features include commentary by scene-stealing romantic lead Billy Crystal, director Rob Reiner and writer Nora Ephron, as well as eight deleted scenes and assorted behind-the-scenes featurettes.

R; 95 minutes

IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT: 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Sidney Poitier is the debonair big-city foil to Rod Steiger's sweaty Southern sheriff in this socially conscious murder mystery, in which Poitier is first accused of a murder then asked to help solve it. Special features include commentary by director Norman Jewison, cinematographer Haskell Wexler, Steiger and supporting actress Lee Grant, as well as a look at the Quincy Jones soundtrack.

Unrated; 109 minutes

THUNDERBIRDS: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTOR'S EDITION MEGASET

This mammoth release brings yet another superlative to the ever growing vocabulary of DVD marketing - and for the record, a "megaset" contains a whopping 12 discs of material, including production stills, behind-the-scenes and making-of featurettes, a pop-up episode and more. It's everything you ever wanted to know about ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy's International Rescue team, and probably an hour or two more.

Not rated; 1,664 minutes
