Ah, post-Thanksgiving bliss: basking in the warm glow of the TV, a bellyful of carbohydrates lulling me into a stupor.
Would that it could last forever. Alas, duty demands words be typed, so in keeping with the season, here's a music gratitude list for 2009.
I'm grateful Os Mutantes and Leonard Cohen played Tampa this year. I'm grateful Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer came to St. Petersburg. I'm grateful Bruce Springsteen came back to town after the Super Bowl and hope it's not the last time around for the E Street Band.
I'm grateful for a thriving Tampa-area music scene and especially for the artists who appeared on "What Goes On," our local music podcast on TBO Extra. (What? You haven't heard it? Go here now: TBO.com, Keyword: What Goes On.)
I'm grateful for 180-gram vinyl reissues.
I'm grateful for smart record labels that include free downloads when you buy vinyl.
I'm grateful for veteran bands that don't rest on their laurels. I'm grateful for good new (and new-ish) bands that keep me from crawling into a classic-rock hole.
I'm grateful for readers who tell me they like this column, and for people who disagree with me without resorting to name-calling and insults (unless they're really, really funny).
And as I'll tell myself countless times throughout Tuesday's Miley Cyrus concert, I'm grateful I have a job.
