The producers of a remake of the movie "True Grit" are holding a casting call in Tallahassee on Saturday for a teenage girl.
The movie, being produced by Paramount Pictures and the Coen Brothers, most likely will be filmed in Austin, Tex., beginning in March.
Joel and Ethan Coen ("Fargo," "Big Lewbowski," "No Country for Old Men") have cast Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin in the remake of the 1969 Oscar-winner directed by Henry Hathaway that starred John Wayne, Glen Campbell, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper and Kim Darby.
Bridges will take over Wayne's memorable role as Marshall "Rooster" Cogburn.
In the original film, actress Darby was 21 when she played a character named Mattie Ross. In the remake, the role of Mattie will be a "12 to 16-year-old Caucasian girl who is "strong and tells it like it is," according to the casting call.
No acting experience is necessary.
Auditions will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott at 1018 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. Those auditioning need to bring a current photograph.
The character is described as "a simple, tough as nails young woman."
"Her steely nerves and straightforward manner are a shocking contrast to the way women behaved in the early century. She's possessed of true grit and plenty of determination. She insists on going with two marshals to hunt down the killer of her father."
The Coens reportedly have been scouting locations in Austin where they filmed their first hit, "Blood Simple." They are also looking at Utah, Arizona and New Mexico for the film's finale, a big shootout set in the Rockies. The film is set for a 2011 release.
