Tampa is finally becoming known over the airwaves for courtroom defendants other than oversexed teachers, suspected terrorism supporters or "American Idol" contestants more famous for rehab than singing.
So, Debra Lafave, Sami Al-Arian and Jessica Sierra, you are about to be upstaged by Mr. Snuggles, Debo the pit bull and a chicken targeted by a neighbor with a slingshot.
TruTV, formerly known as Court TV, is making Tampa known for its furry and feathered on "Pet Court," a series looking at animal cases in the courtroom of Hillsborough County Judge Nick Nazaretian.
Nazaretian handles Animal Control cases a few times a month. The network heard about animal court and was intrigued, publicist Samantha Graham said in an e-mail.
The network started taping in August 2008 and returned nearly every month until there was enough for 10 half-hour episodes.
The network has no plans to visit other cities, she said.
Episodes of "Pet Court" are airing this week at 3 and 3:30 p.m on truTV.
