An open casting call is set for 10 a.m. Saturday for a recruitment commercial for the Boys Scouts of America featuring Tampa Bay Lightning standout Dave Andreychuk.
Boys between the ages of 13 and 17 can audition at the St. Pete Times Forum. No acting experience is required and those auditioning do not have to be Boy Scouts.
"This is a joint effort with the Lightning to show that scouting is exciting and fun," says Fabiola Balbina, of the Gulf Ridge Council, Boy Scouts of America.
"We want to show that scouting is an adventure that's cool," says Evan Brownstein, of the Bright Monkey marketing company which is producing the commercial.
He explained that the commercial will open with some boys playing video games and then Andreychuk will appear to encourage them to get off the couch and experience the real world. The living room will fade into a hockey arena.
"We want to make the connection between scouting and sports," he says.
Andreychuk will not be at the audition on Saturday. The commercial will begin production later in August, Brownstein says. Approximately eight or more boys will be selected. The commercial will air on Tampa area TV stations and cable.
Boys and their parents can check in for the audition at Gate D (at the back of the Forum).
