Peter Roghaar, a television news manager from West Palm Beach, has been hired as the news director at WTSP, Channel 10.
Roghaar replaces former news director Darren Richards who recently left the "10 Connects" newscasts to join the Tucker Hall public relations firm in Tampa.
Roghaar becomes director of news and information at 10 Connects, says Ken Tonning, president and general manager of 10 Connects.
Roghaar has been news director at WPTV, the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, for nine years. During that time, he led the station's coverage of three major hurricanes, transitioned to high definition and to multimedia journalism.
Roghaar graduated with a double major in telecommunications and English from the University of Miami, Coral Gables. He has worked at WSVN in Miami and was a news producer at two stations in Austin, Texas. He is a former senior executive producer at WHDH in Boston and was the assistant news director at WXIA in Atlanta just prior to joining WPTV.
In a statement released late Monday, Tonning said "Peter is obviously very familiar with Florida, from our severe weather, to our politics.
"These are exciting times in journalism and local news. And we know his experience and leadership skills make him the right person to lead the 10 Connects Information Center to a position of dominance in news and information in Tampa Bay."
Roghaar will be moving to the Tampa Bay region with his wife, Dr. Lisa Roghaar, and their three children.
10 Connects is the brand name for WTSP-TV, a Gannett Co Inc.-owned station in Pinellas County.
