At long last, this season of "Dancing With the Stars" comes to an end beginning at 9 tonight on ABC.
Early on I predicted that singer Mýa should take home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. She burned up the dance floor with near-perfect performances.
But the 30-year-old Mýa Marie Harrison is not well-known outside of R&B circles and in four of the past nine seasons, the couple with the highest overall score did not win.
Mýa faces bigger celebrities with large fan bases. Ozzy Osbourne's daughter, Kelly, has become a plucky and endearing underdog, while likeable show biz legend Donny Osmond probably has the whole state of Utah voting for him, as well as throngs of middle-age women for whom he will always be a teen idol.
The two-hour finale is padded with extras including a Whitney Houston performance and a mambo dance-off with former "Dancing" stars Cloris Leachman, Steve Wozniak and Jerry Springer.
LIZARD PEOPLE: After the fourth episode of "V" airs tonight at 8, the series will take a long break and return in March.
On a cliffhanger, FBI agent Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) uncovers a biological threat from the Visitors; Chad (Scott Wolf) is conflicted about his investigative report on the Visitors' healing powers; and Erica's teenage son Tyler (Logan Huffman) goes on the mother ship to meet alien leader Anna (Morena Baccarin).
After an impressive start four weeks ago, "V" has continued to lose viewers. The aliens landed with a bang but the slow-moving story of Earth being conquered by a reptilian race disguised as humans fails to intrigue or excite us.
CASTING CALL: The folks at Verizon may have come up with the best infomercial ever: a home makeover show that rewards a technology-challenged family while showcasing the wonders of Verizon FiOS and other Verizon-related services.
Beginning Friday, the first of a series of casting calls will be held to find a Tampa-area family for "My Home 2.0," a Verizon-produced TV program to air in March.
It will air on a local station yet to be determined. Verizon will buy the time and place the program.
One family will get the full geek treatment. A team of Verizon technicians will spend 48 hours installing a state-of-the-art computer, gaming system, home theater, Verizon FiOS and more.
Cameras will record it and Verizon will host a block party for family, friends and neighbors. The reveal is shown on a Jumbotron screen. After "My Home 2.0" airs on TV, it will be available online.
The first casting call for families is Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Westfield Shopping Center in Brandon. Other audition sites include the Ybor City Santa Fest on Dec. 5; Countryside Mall in Clearwater on Dec. 12 and 13; WestShore Plaza on Dec. 19 and 20; Lowry Park Zoo on Dec. 22; and Citrus Park Shopping Center on Dec. 26 and 27.
