Former TV anchor stuns 'Family Feud' host with answer

A former Tampa news anchor, who has an unusual history of making more news off camera than on, has become an Internet star thanks to a wild episode of "Family Feud."

Secily Wilson, who worked at WTVT, Channel 13, from 1998 to 2003, recently stunned "Family Feud" host Steve Harvey during a taping at Universal Orlando.

Wilson, who now lives in Lake Mary, was playing the game with family members when Harvey posed the question: "We asked 100 men to name a part of your body that's bigger than it was when you were 16?"

Wilson calmly said, "Penis." Her answer brought Harvey to his knees.

The clip has been getting millions of hits. The episode aired nationally in September, but the clip is still circulating.

Wilson told the Orlando Sentinel that she thinks Harvey's reaction made it funny.

"The answer was very appropriate," she told the newspaper. "It came out so innocently. I was focused on winning the money. Truly, it was off the top of my head. Nothing staged or premeditated. It just came out. I didn't realize it was an issue. I glanced over at Steve. I saw him laughing and falling to the ground. That's when I said, 'Did I say something wrong?' "Check out the video on YouTube.

Wilson made headlines while working in Tampa when she was charged with resisting arrest and speeding on Interstate 75 in Sumter County while returning from a trip to Georgia. The arresting officer claimed she was screaming and tried to scratch and kick him.

But Wilson, who was described by friends and relatives as a sweet, calm, church-going person, said the officer approached her with a gun, threatened her with pepper spray and handcuffed her without cause.

She was found not guilty, filed a civil suit against the Florida Highway Patrol and was awarded $100,000 in a settlement.

After leaving WTVT, she worked as traffic reporter for Orlando's WKMG, Channel 6, and was host of a public affairs show on WMFE, Channel 24. She also was Mrs. Florida International in 1999.

BOYS GAME: WFLA-TV News Channel 8 news anchor Gayle Sierens, the only woman to call play-by-play for a nationally televised NFL game, is one of nearly two dozen women in sports featured in "Playing Ball With the Boys," the new book by former ESPN anchor Betsy M. Ross.

In 1987, Sierens, who had been a sports reporter for WFLA, called a nationally televised game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs for NBC Sports. It was considered a success but Sierens decided to stay in Tampa as a news anchor.

"I have zero regrets that I chose my life that I have now, and my family, over that," she says in the book. "But it would have been fun to see where it would have gone. And that's just something I'll never know."
