FREE MUSEUM DAY!
St. Petersburg shines the spotlight on its vibrant arts and cultural scene with "ArtsAlive 2008," highlighted by the popular Free Museum Day. For this once-a-year event, admission is free for Pinellas and Hillsborough county residents (with ID) to six museums and several popular visitor attractions. ArtsAlive also features special activities throughout the day and transportation aboard the Looper downtown trolley (25 cents) and the one-day-only Sunken Gardens shuttle (free).
Participating museums -- including the Dali Museum, Florida Holocaust Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and St. Petersburg Museum of History -- will be open expanded hours from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Great Explorations/The Children's Museum and Sunken Gardens are open until 4 p.m.) "This is a very popular annual outing and we encourage visitors to arrive early to beat the crowds later in the day," said Ann Wykell, the city's manager of cultural affairs.
