Named one of the best plays of 1984 byTime Magazine and The New York Times and winner of Drama Desk and Obie awards, playwright Charles Ludlam weaves a campy, hilarious tale centered around Mandacrest Estate, home to Lord Edgar and Lady Enid, Lord Edgar’s second wife. Lord Edgar is still recovering from the passing of his first wife Irma. The staff, a maid, Jane Twisden and a swineherd named Nicodemus Underwood have their own opinions of Lady Enid. An outrageous romp.

ABOUT THE PLAY: The name Irma Vep is an anagram for vampire. It is a campy tribute to Gothic horror films, stealing from well-known films like Wuthering Heights, The Mummy’s Curse and Hitchcock’s film, Rebecca. Audiences will recognize dialogue from Ibsen, Shakespeare, Poe, the Bronte Sisters, Omar Khayyam and Oscar Wilde. The plot is secondary to the clever fast paced spoof of eight characters, complete with werewolves, vampires and damsels in distress. It has been compared to a theatrical high-wire act.
