Cravings: Stuff We Gotta Have

WHITER SHADE OF ALE

Brewed in the classic style of Belgian Wit beers, Samuel Adams' White Ale is a seasonal brew that gets its name from the slightly milky appearance of its malt. Spices used in the process include orange and lemon peel, dried plum, coriander, anise, rose hips, tamarind and vanilla. The beer is coarse filtered, leaving a white haze from the malt proteins. We liked the mild flavor and that it can be paired with many foods, including tangy cheeses and grilled foods. Cost: $7.99 for a six-pack.

BARK ONCE FOR YES

When we think Pier 1 Imports (it happens more times than we'll admit), we think of foofy smelling candles, bamboo chairs we would break if we sat on them and impractical placemats. Imagine our surprise when we tripped across gift bottles of flavored bark that were too delicious to share. The milk and cookies lasted, oh, about 94 seconds. Can't imagine how long banana pudding would take to be inhaled. Cost: $8

GREAT GRATER

We're big fans whenever we see form meeting function. When there's a sprinkling of style to it, well, all the better. This 6-inch-tall Eiffel Tower-shaped cheese grater from Fred Flare is a fun alternative to the boring shapes you normally find in kitchen shops. Can a Leaning Tower of Pisa mortar and pestle be far behind? Cost: $20. Available at www.fredflare.com
