The Florida National Scenic Trail is 1,400 miles long. It extends from Miami to the Panhandle.

Jim Kern founded the Florida Trail Association in 1964 to establish the trail.

The Ocala Trail, a 70-mile section, became the first portion of the Florida Trail to be completed in 1966.

Hikers can enjoy 80 habitats in Florida's tropical and semitropical ecosystems along the trail.

The first Florida Hiking Festival will be March 28-30 at Stephen Foster Folk Cultural State Park in White Springs. Activities will include guided hikes, paddles, biking along the Suwannee River, folk culture and crafts demonstrations, and hands-on learning sessions. Cost is $18 for adults 18 and older ($36 after March 7); $9 for teens 13 to 17 years old ($18 after March 7); and free for children 12 and younger.
