REVIEW: Wi-Gear iMuffs cordless headphones ($179.99 at amazon.com)

The Pitch: "No more cords to untangle or snag. Ergonomically placed controls let you pause, change volume, skip tracks, and seek music right from the headphones. With Bluetooth 2.0 technology, you can enjoy near-CD quality sound up to 30 feet away."

The Skinny: It's a blissful concept: Working out and listening to your iPod without a tangle of wires tripping you up. And Wi-Gear iMuffs cordless headphones - like other similar and less-expensive products - do eliminate that hassle right away. The iMuffs adapter is slim and smooth; its shape and size won't add awkward bulk, so it fits nicely tucked into a pocket or armband.

The headphones, however, would be a challenge for anyone who likes ear buds. They hook onto your ears and around the back of the head, and are heavy and bulky. Though they stayed on during several workouts at the gym and a run of several miles, they also retained heat that made them feel like earmuffs worthy of a Northern winter. The controls on the headset are large enough to manipulate, but it's hard to remember exactly which button does what.

The best part, without a doubt, is the sound. Music heard via the iMuffs comes through louder, clearer and more balanced than the iPod ear buds provided by Apple. And getting up from a work station and walking to a nearby cubicle to get coffee won't diminish the signal. Walking more than 30 feet away stops the music, so you can resume playing once you return.
