Health benefits of MMA training

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Nearly every aspect of physical fitness is addressed during a mixed martial arts workout.

For example, the grappling (wrestling/Brazilian jiu-jitsu) moves used in mixed martial arts work on aerobic and anaerobic cardiovascular endurance. Exploding for a takedown or a submission attempt will spike your heart rate and bring it back down. This happens several times during a grappling match or training session.

Holding certain positions on the ground tests cardio health, muscle endurance and muscle strength.

Flexibility also plays a big role in grappling. The more flexible a person becomes, the easier it is to maneuver and transition from position to position. Striking classes offer the same type of health benefits.

Studies have shown that martial arts helps with overall physical fitness - including balance, coordination and strength - in all age groups. It also aids in focus and stress release.

Because it is known as a combat sport, mixed martial arts has its critics, but participants don't have to compete. About 5 percent of the clients at Tampa area XFC gyms are pros training for fights. As a part of every class, the XFC institutes a conditioning program that includes strength training, plyometrics and distance training.
