Pet-A-Paloosa offers hundreds of animals for adoption

Hundreds of dog and cat lovers strolled through the University of South Florida Sun Dome to potentially adopt an animal at today's Tampa Bay Pet-A-Paloosa.

"Animals are getting adopted left and right," said Rick Medina, a volunteer with Animal Based Charities. "We're so excited; we're so happy."

The annual event brought animal rescue organizations and individuals together to encourage pet adoption. There were more than 700 animals available for adoption.

The program also helps reduce the number of dogs and cats that are euthanized, Medina said.

"Too many of these animals are put down on a regular basis," Medina said. "We are trying to stop the useless killing."

Organizers collected donated food for dogs and cats. There were also several seminars on fostering and adopting pets.
