Tampa sandwich lovers, grab your napkins. Adam Richman has a show for you.
The TV host of such delicacy-choked shows as "Man V. Food Nation" and "Amazing Eats" is now hunting for the best grub between bread slices on his new series, "Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America."
The show debuts with a back-to-back showing at 9 and 9:30 tonight on the Travel Channel.
Richman scours 27 U.S. cities in 10 regions to find the top 30 sandwiches in the country, evaluating each candidate using his BITE scale (B=Bread, I=Interior, T=Taste, E=Eating Experience).
The show pits three sandwiches against one another in each episode in a bracket-style slugfest.
In tonight's episode, Richman chews through Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh, Tommy DiNic's inside Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market and Katz's deli in New York City.
In the second episode on June 13, Richman visits the Gulf Coast, including Aguila Sandwich Shop and Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa. At Aguila, he samples the media noche, cousin to the better-known Cubano with a slightly sweeter bread. At Skipper's, Richman features the grouper Reuben topped with melted Swiss cheese, thousand island dressing and sauerkraut on marble rye bread.
In that episode, the two Tampa sandwiches go up against the shrimp po'boy from Domilise's Po-Boy and Bar in New Orleans. The bayou sammie includes fresh, fried Gulf shrimp, locally made bread, tomato, lettuce and creole mustard with pickles on top.
