THE STUFFER Abby Alger, Freedom, C, Senior, 6-2: Alger was one of the state's leaders in blocked shots last season with 119, an average of 4.3 per game. Alger, one of only two senior starters returning this season for the Patriots, has taken on a bigger leadership role on the court.

Gaither's Sergio Delgado and St. Petersburg's Gordon McLean had very different outings during Tuesday's Class 6A-District 7 baseball semifinals at Alonso, but both pitchers ended up accomplishing the same thing. Both Delgado and McLean tossed complete games in leading their respective teams to upset victories.
Seffner Christian coach Mark Canterbury was concerned his team's undefeated record against district opponents in the regular season might lead to overconfidence in the Crusaders' opening game of the district tournament. His concerns seemed misplaced as Seffner (18-2-3) dominated possession in its 4-1 Class 1A-District 3 semifinal win against Citrus Park Christian (5-12-2) on Tuesday.
Those experiences help high school football coaches relate to players, but it's not a mandatory job requirement.
