New Tampa soon will have second carwash

Development at the southwest corner of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Trout Creek Drive is picking up, including a carwash scheduled to open this summer.

In September, the Tampa-based casual dining restaurant Burger 21 became the first business to open in Trout Creek Commons, a two-building shopping center totaling 15,000 square feet.

A franchise of Georgia-based La’ Berry Frozen Yogurt Café has leased a storefront at the rear of the building occupied by Burger 21. The New Tampa store will be the first outside of Georgia for the small Savannah-based chain, a spokeswoman said.

At the north end of the second building at the rear of the property, space is being readied for a SleepRite Mattresses store.

Immediately south of the Trout Creek Commons property, walls are rising for two buildings to house Speed Wash & Lube.

Majed Amaish of Brandon, a partner in the carwash, said it is scheduled to open in late July. The business will offer “flex wash,” allowing customers to choose between full- and self-service options, he said.

Amaish said he has experience in the business, having owned and operated a Brandon carwash for three years before selling it.

The southernmost of the two buildings will house the carwash; the other will provide space for vehicle detailing, lubrication services and a lobby/waiting room, he said.

This will be New Tampa’s second full-service carwash. A carwash on Dona Michelle Drive behind the Walgreens, 17511 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., opened in July 2001 as Water & Water. The business sold in August 2004, was renamed and continues to operate as Bay Breeze Car Wash & Lube.

Trout Creek Commons is owned by Maher Alagal, president of Maher Properties Group of Tampa. The Cross Creek businessman built the two-building development to attract regional and nationally known retailers.
