The driver of a stolen vehicle was arrested early this morning after a 14-minute police chase in Pinellas County that injured one deputy and damaged three cruisers, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reported.
The pursuit ensued after a deputy spotted a stolen car around East Bay Drive and Belcher Road and tried to pull over the vehicle. The driver pulled into a shopping center where he dropped off three passengers and then took off. The chase went from East Bay Drive at Belcher, south to Bryan Dairy Road and U.S. 19, then north to SR 580, the sheriff's office said.
Three agency cruisers were damaged in the pursuit; there was also power line damage reported.
Dane Walter Bailey, 23, was arrested charged with grand theft auto, DUI, fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
Bailey and Deputy Jonathan Cleary, were treated at Mease Countryside Hospital for minor injuries.
