TAMPA — Mayor Bob Buckhorn will open two city recreation centers this weekend to give Tampa’s thousands of uninsured residents a chance to sign up for health insurance.
The deadline for registering for an insurance policy under the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) is Monday.
Buckhorn has promoted ACA over the past few months at joint appearances in Tampa with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.
People can sign up for health insurance from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hunter Center in Al Lopez Park, 4810 N. Himes Ave.
On Sunday, the Jackson Heights NFL Yet Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Hunt Center will be open again Monday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for last-minute sign-ups. The Springhill Recreation Center, 1000 E. Eskimo Ave., will be the last chance to sign up. It will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Each center will have trained navigators on hand to help people sort through their mix of health insurance policies and subsidies they qualify for.
