Immigration advocates say a bill by Sen. Aaron Bean would “force all state entities to essentially turn-in families who lack immigration status.”
Tuesday morning, Bean, a Fernandina Beach Republican, was joined by Sen. Travis Hutson and Reps. Matt Gaetz and Carlos Trujillo to discusse several measures aimed enforcing federal immigration laws. Bean’s proposal (SB 872) requires Florida cities to enforce immigration law and crack down on “sanctuary cities.”
The bill calls on the state to “support federal immigration enforcement efforts and ensure that such efforts are not impeded or thwarted by state or local laws, policies, practices, procedures or customs.”
