A 29-year-old Riverview man was trying to help people injured following an Interstate 75 crash this morning when he was struck by a 2006 Saturn and died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Amir D. Sarhaddi died following the 3:09 a.m. crash in the Brandon area.
The incident started when 2007 Infiniti driver James S. Braley, 36, of Riverview, failed to notice that a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee in front of him was slower moving, according to a Florida Highway Patrol release. The Infiniti, which was heading south on I-75, struck the Jeep's rear, causing the Jeep to overturn on the outside grass shoulder and strike a tree.
The Infiniti rotated across the right and right center lanes, coming to a final rest blocking the lanes, according to the release.
Sarhaddi pulled his Dodge pickup to the shoulder of I-75 and tried to assist the injured, as did the driver of a 1995 Toyota truck.
That's when a Saturn driven by Jessica L. Paquette, 23, of Riverview, struck the Infiniti's left side and veered to the left, striking Sarhaddi. The Saturn continued across the southbound lanes, striking the Toyota.
Braley and the Jeep's driver, Perets E. Nisim, suffered minor injuries, and Paquette wasn't injured, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Toyota driver Jared Cason, 19, of North Port, also wasn't injured.
Charges are pending completion of a death investigation, according to the release.
