1 dead in Brandon collision

BRANDON --

A motorcyclist was killed Friday evening in collision with a car at U.S. 301 and Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

While heading north on U.S. 301 about 7:24 p.m., a 1997 Camaro driven by Wayne Timothy Gardner II, 21, of Apollo Beach, turned into the path of a 1991 Sukuzi while attempting to merge onto I-75.

Two people, neither identified by the highway patrol because next of kin have not been notified, were aboard the motorcycle. Both were ejected from the bike in the collision. The motorcycle driver, a male, died at the scene, while the passenger, a female, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

The highway patrol said charges are pending and that the investigation is continuing.
