An alternative energy park that would turn household waste into energy and create hundreds of jobs over the next few years, got its final approval from Hillsborough County Tuesday.
Developers of the Infinitus Renewable Energy Park could break ground by December, if all goes as planned.
It will include a gasification plant that will convert household waste and agricultural waste into energy, with the aide of reclaimed water coming from the county's wastewater treatment plant off of Dover Road.
The park, located on a 3,000-acre former phosphate mine off State Road 60 between Dover and Turkey Creek Roads, would also include a fish farm, hydroponic vegetable farm and solar panels.
Imperium Companies, a South Florida development company, will build and operate the plant.
Imperium President Kyle Mowitz said his company will have to put up the millions required to build the park, but could get up to $150 million back in reimbursements through federal grants and incentives for alternative energy.
