TAMPA - The day after Christmas, Tampa police arrested three people charged with stealing scrap metal from a metal wholesaler during the holiday.

According to a police report, Commercial Metals on North 62nd Street has been repeatedly burglarized at night over the past several months. On Monday and Tuesday, distinctively painted metal pipes were reported stolen.

On Wednesday, a Tampa police officer asked members of his squad to keep an eye on scrap metal yards for the pipes. Within minutes, the police report states, another officer arrested Richard Anderson, 29, and Deja Wright, 18, who were trying to sell the pipes at a scrap metal shop on East Fourth Avenue.

After questioning, Anderson and Wright said Nathanial Anderson, 49, was the man who took the pipes. He was arrested later Wednesday. All acknowledged their role it the theft, Tampa police said.

Nathanial Anderson is charged with commercial burglary and grand theft. Richard Anderson and Wright are charged with grand theft and dealing in stolen property. Wright also is charged with criminal mischief for attempting to damage police vehicles, officials said.
