LARGO - A man who had crashed through a fence with his truck Sunday morning refused to get out afterward and attacked police, authorities said.
Brian Alan Wilkinson, 31, of Largo, was eventually charged with three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting arrest with violence, said Lt. Mike Loux of the Largo Police Department.
Shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to a report of a dark-colored pickup truck ramming a home at 145 Sixth St. N.W., Loux said. When officers arrived, they found the truck had crashed through a fence at the address.
The officers told the driver to get out of the truck, but he refused, Loux said. At one point, one officer opened a door to the truck, and the driver punched the officer in the face, Loux said. Over the next several minutes, the driver struck other officers as he resisted their attempts to take him into custody, Loux said.
