THE NEWS CENTER - Victoria Lim spent her last day as News Channel 8's Senior Consumer Reporter Thursday.
Vicki has been here for more than a decade, and I've had the good fortune to sit next to her for the past seven years.
Not only has Vicki produced fine consumer reports protecting viewers from scams and resolving complaints, but she's also maintained a weekly column in the Tampa Tribune and a TBO blog. She is convergence veteran, teaching curious journalists around the country how to merge.
I knew Vicki was serious about her consumer reporting when she berated me for not blacking out my credit card number on a restaurant receipt after one of the first times we dined out together.
Sitting next to Vicki, I learned that she is not "fragile and dainty" as she has claimed for years, but rather tough when it comes to businesses and companies that take advantage of consumers.
I have seen her fight from the bottom of her heart, while operating with the highest ethics. She works with a sincere dedication to help others. But with her serious drive comes a playful personality that adds so much "realness" to her job and to our workday.
Toys, photographs, and Starbucks cups decorate her desk. Vicki maintains a public "quoteboard" of overheard comments in the newsroom. It makes us all laugh during sometimes stressful moments on the job. She named the cubicle we sit in "the cube of love" in an act of positivity.
Vicki is a dear friend of mine but also a journalist I admire and deeply respect. I am grateful to not only have laughed with Vicki but to have learned from her as well. On behalf of all of us at News Channel 8, thanks for the memories! We will miss your terrific work and your endearing smile. Best of luck in all your future endeavors!
