Amtrak's Florida Rail Service Still Off Track

»  Comments | Post a Comment

With the exception of a New York train scheduled to arrive in Tampa on Friday afternoon en route to Miami, Amtrak's Florida operations remained canceled Thursday because of severe weather from Tropical Storm Fay.

The southbound Silver Star was scheduled to leave New York at 10:41 a.m. today and arrive in Tampa at 12:34 p.m. Friday.

Amtrak canceled today's northbound Silver Star, which was scheduled to leave Miami at 11:50 a.m. and Tampa at 5:17 p.m. for New York and intermediate destinations.

Other Florida Amtrak service canceled today includes the Silver Meteor, which operates between Miami and New York - and passes through but does not serve Tampa -- and the AutoTrain, which runs between Sanford and Lorton, Va.

"We hope to resume Florida service on Friday, but we are not sure yet," spokeswoman Karina Romero said from Amtrak's Washington's headquarters.

Amtrak expected to make an announcement today about Friday service. The passenger rail service said the slow progress of Tropical Storm Fay past Jacksonville could cause additional problems.

Amtrak said it was cautious about resuming service until inspectors have time to check tracks for storm damage.
