Pinellas County deputies used a helicopter and a K-9 unit to track down the man they say attacked a homeless couple with a brick and then raped the woman.
Detectives said the attack happened about 1:00 a.m. today at a campsite on a vacant lot in the 4500 block of 66th Street North in Kenneth City.
Here's what detectives say happened:
Jesus Escudero, 31, of St. Petersburg, struck the 48-year-old homeless man with a brick and then began striking the 42-year-old woman. The man ran to a pay phone and called 911. When he returned, the woman told him she had been raped.
Deputies arrived on the scene and found Escudero less than 30 minutes later. They said he was combative and had to be subdued with a taser-like weapon.
Escudero is charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count each of sexual battery, battery on a law enforcement officer, petit theft, and providing a false name to a law enforcement officer. He also was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court on an unrelated grand theft charge.
The woman was taken to the hospital. Her condition has not been released.
