TAMPA -- Hillsborough County detectives say a Gibsonton man killed his 3-month-old son last year.
Detectives arrested Charles Scoble 11:30 a.m. today in connection with his son's death on May 13, 2007. Scoble, 23, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
The boy, Nicholas Scoble, was in his father's care when he was found not breathing in his crib, a sheriff's office release states. Nicholas Scoble was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Scoble's body was taken to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiners office for an autopsy.
An investigation showed Charles Scoble "willfully and intentionally injured" the boy, and the death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner's office, according to the release.
The boy suffered head trauma, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
It took more than a year to arrest the boy's father, Carter said, because officers needed to investigate the incident thoroughly.
"A lot of times, interviews change," she said. "The detectives were just diligent and continuing to investigate."
Scoble, of 10105 Maggie St., remained in Orient Road Jail today. No bail had been set.
