TAMPA - After getting caught crawling into an apartment through a dining room window, a Clearwater man intentionally struck and killed the robbery victims' dog with his vehicle and then tried driving over one of the robbery victims, Clearwater officials say.
Ajet Ukperaj was arrested Sunday morning and charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to animals and burglary.
Shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, Brian Carmichael and Kristen Kelly came home from work and saw Ukperaj crawling into their Clearwater home at Grand Bay Apartments, 2909 Gulf to Bay Blvd. They confronted the 28-year-old man, and he went to a vehicle in the parking lot.
Carmichael and Kelly looked at the interior of their home, then went into the parking lot and began arguing with Ukperaj. He got into the vehicle and intentionally struck and killed a dog owned by the victims, according to a news release from Clearwater.
He also tried running over Carmichael but missed, instead crashing into a palm tree, according to the release. Carmichael then shot Ukperaj twice with a stun gun.
Ukperaj, of 1329 Drew St., Apt. 9, was treated at Morton Plant Hospital and was arrested.
