New Home For Famous Clearwater Dolphin?

CLEARWATER Clearwater Marine Aquarium has announced a $200,000 fundraising campaign for construction of a new exhibit that will provide Winter the tailless dolphin a new home.

The aquarium wants to put Winter, a 2-year-old Atlantic bottlenose whose story about receiving a prosthetic rear fin has grabbed attention worldwide, and another dolphin in a larger tank in the rear of the facility.

That tank is now used to house sick and injured marine life and would still do so when needed, said David Yates, CEO of the nonprofit marine animal rescue center. But once completed, the new exhibit area will normally house Winter and Panama, a 30-year-old Atlantic bottlenose who has become Winter's surrogate mother, Yates said.

The new exhibit will provide more space than Winter and Panama now have in the inside exhibit, where two male dolphins, Indy and Nicholas, also are housed.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so by going to www.SeeWinter.com and clicking on the "Help Build Winter's Home" link on the home page.
