A 25-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after Hillsborough County deputies say he attacked two women with a baseball bat, according to criminal arrest affidavits.
Jimmy Ray Murdock, of 10200 Armenia Ave., is also accused of taking a 2004 Nissan Sentra owned by one of the women, driving erratically and colliding with two other vehicles before crashing, the affidavits state.
Murdock has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing to elude, reckless driving, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
This is what happened about 12 a.m., according to the arrest affidavits:
Murdock and his girlfriend were having an argument when another woman stepped in between them. Murdock grabbed an aluminum baseball bat and swung at the women, hitting them in their heads and backs. The names of the women were not listed in the affidavits.
Murdock then took the keys of the Sentra and drove north on Armenia Avenue, where Hillsborough sheriff's deputies tried to stop the car. Instead, the Sentra turned west on Fletcher Avenue, almost hitting a deputy's cruiser, the affidavits state.
The Sentra drove between and collided with two other vehicles going west on Fletcher but did not stop. No one was seriously hurt.
The car reached speeds of about 80 mph and ran a red light near Fletcher and Dale Mabry Highway, according to the affidavits. Just past the intersection, Murdock lost control of the Sentra, crashed and was ejected from the vehicle.
Murdock was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was still being treated on Sunday, jail records show.
