Gov. Charlie Crist said during a news conference this morning that he more or less has decided to scrap plans to attend the Republican Party's national convention this week in Minneapolis.
"Pretty much looks that way," said Crist, who appeared at the state Emergency Operations Center to talk about Tropical Storm Hanna and other weather systems that could affect Florida.
"We've got a lot coming at us, and I think it's important to be here. You know, I understand why people are up there, and I appreciate that. Electing the next president's an important mission, but protecting Florida is Mission One."
Asked about speculation that Sen. John McCain could tap him for a Cabinet post if the GOP presidential nominee were to win in November, Crist was circumspect, saying he is focused on Florida and the ongoing weather threats.
Along with Tropical Storm Hanna, the Atlantic now is home to tropical storms Ike and Josephine.
